PAWS Chicago accepts a limited number of high school interns each semester at our Medical Center and Lincoln Park Adoption Center. High school interns have the unique ability to independently assist at our facilities, helping with cleaning, shelter chores, feeding and walking dogs - and much more!
To participate in the high school internship program:
- Students need to be at least 16 years of age.
- Students must be part of an existing formalized job-readiness and career-minded program managed by a school or community organization.
- This program should have formalized guidelines for participation, including an interview process, minimum service hour requirements, regular check-ins for students, and an administrator for PAWS staff to contact with any concerns.
- The program should allow for students to commit to a recurring weekday daytime schedule (between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.) during the school year. The schedule can be discussed between the program administrator and the PAWS supervisor.
If you are a program administrator interested in partnering with PAWS Chicago or would like more information, please email internships@pawschicago.org.
If you are a high school student who is not part of a formalized program but is still interested in working with PAWS, we recommend you check out our Junior Volunteer program.
This role is only available in-person.
Please note that all PAWS Chicago internships are unpaid and housing is not provided.
