1. How long have you been volunteering?
I started volunteering 3 years ago after completing my mentoring at LPAC. I chose PAWS as a volunteer opportunity because of my lifetime love of animals and a desire to spend time giving to a worthwhile organization such as PAWS.
2. Which PAWS programs/areas do you volunteer and why?
My main area of volunteering is at the Medical Center where I spend my time in the dish room and laundry area as needed. I also volunteer at the PAWS 5K in June and the PAWS booth at the Chicago Marathon in October.
3. Do you have a favorite experience or memory from your volunteering?
Each time I volunteer is a learning experience for me, as each week is fun and different. Seeing the completion of the new facilities at the Medical Center is so exciting. Knowing what the dish room was like 3 years ago and seeing the new room now is incredible. I am glad to have seen this transformation.
4. What motivates you to continue volunteering?
The shuttle group that goes from LPAC on Wednesdays to the Medical Center is dedicated and consistent. I feel that we have made some lasting friendships through volunteer trips made over time.
5. Do you have any advice?
Volunteering is such a wonderful way to spend time with fantastic people. Every day is rewarding no matter what you accomplish. Being a PAWS volunteer and helping Chicago’s animals in need is a valuable way to give back.
