New Digs for Dexter

Oct 15, 2021

Dexter was originally adopted from PAWS in 2018. However, after two and a half happy years with his new family, they were heartbrokenly forced to give up Dexter when it became clear he was incompatible with their new baby.

Luckily, “Once a PAWS pet, always a PAWS pet.” Dexter returned to us, and we were determined to find him a lasting companion. Cathrine Vaughn was just that person.

“Both Dexter and I had a few days of uncertainty. It’s hard moving in with someone—new space, new habits, new personalities. And it is that much tougher when only one of you can use your words. But I'm happy to say that we stuck together, and Dexter is doing very well.  He is such a happy and loving boy, and he can be a real goofball. Sometimes when he sleeps, he howls under his breath and moves his legs like he is running—so cute. Are all dogs this cute when sleeping? We've had a lot of fun over the last 6 weeks getting to know each other,” said Cathrine.

Today, Dexter’s life is filled with all his favorite things.

“Dexter loves morning cuddles on the couch. He is always so excited to start the day and just wants to sit on your lap and nuzzle you for a few minutes to make sure we get it started right. He absolutely loves saying hi to ALL the dogs. When we go for a walk, he is very popular. Also at the top of his favorite things are a good roll in the park, a good lie down in a puddle on a hot day, and ‘swimming’ in the lake (he lays down in the water and just moves his front paws up and down),” said Cathrine.

Cathrine and her husband, Kyle, are completely smitten with this new addition to their family.

“He brings so much love and joy into our lives every day. I know lots of people know what I'm talking about, but it's the little things that just make life so great—the way he looks at you with his head tilted when you are talking to him or the way he is SO EXCITED to see you even though you were only gone for 10 minutes. It's wonderful. 100/10 recommend!” said Cathrine.
